TOPDRESSING YOUR LAWN:
- There are several products available to top-dress your lawn –you need to advise us of what lawn you have as not all products are suitable for all lawns.
|
ESTABLISHING NEW GARDEN BEDS OR SPRUCING UP YOUR OLD ONE:
- For flowers, shrubs and native gardens use Premium Garden Mix.
- Vegetable & rose gardens will need Premium Plus Garden Mix.
- You can rejuvenate your existing garden with a top-up of Premium Garden Mix or just mix in some Mushroom Compost and/or Manure to give it a boost.
- Don’t forget to mulch to reduce watering and slow down the weeds.
- Use Gypsum to break down clay surfaces.
|
MULCHING AND WEED BARRIERS:
- Mulching will help to maintain moisture around the root system of your plants thus reducing the number of times you need to water. As an added bonus it will significantly slow down weed growth.
- For the best results you will need a minimum thickness of 5 centimetres although the recommended thickness is 10 centimetres.
- Do not use black plastic as a weed barrier as it creates problems for the soil/root systems. The soil system is a life system in and of itself. Covering with plastic puts a halt on many natural events such as gas exchange between soil atmosphere and the air, water infiltration and percolation, breakdown of organic matter to feed the microorganisms, and more! Plant roots need oxygen just as much as they need water. Use mulch or woven weed mat which allows the soil to breath while keeping the weeds at bay.
- The best mulch to use to avoid termites is Cyprus Pine Mulch … termites hate it!

DECORATING YOUR GARDEN:
- There are several products available to decorate your garden from natural mulches, woodchips and pinebarks to decorative pebbles and volcanic scoria. Refer to our products page for more information.
|
PAVING:
- You will need to establish a good solid base under your pavers. This bottom layer should be 75mm thick or 100mm for driveways. Use roadbase, recycled roadbase or blue metal dust and compact it well. Follow this with a 25mm layer of washed river or paving sand.
- Once you have laid your pavers – sweep Sydney Sand over the top to cover the gaps.
|
LAYING TURF:
- Use topsoil or a sand/soil mix under your turf. You can order your turf directly from us as well.
- Soil needs to have a minimum depth of 75 mm in order to allow the growth of high quality turfs. This is especially the case for poor-quality ground.
- When laying a new lawn, be sure to add slightly more soil than usual, as newly applied turf sinks slightly when wet.
- Sand, when washed and mixed with soil, increases the drainage capability of your lawn.
|
SAND PITS:
- For the plastic clam sandpits you will need about 4 bags of Sydney Sand.
- For other types of sandpits you can work out how much Sydney Sand is required using our “How Much Material Do I Need?” calculator.
|
ABOVE GROUND POOLS:
- Use brickie sand (yellow will do) under the liner of your above ground pool.
